A major water main broke Friday morning, flooding streets in the neighbourhood and filling several basements and vehicles.

A water main break south of Capreol has caused a service interruption for approximately 1,300 customers. Crews are onsite and making repairs. Residents who are currently under a drinking water advisory in Capreol, will have access to safe drinking water via the City of Greater Sudbury’s Water Buggy. The Water Buggy will be located at the Suez Bulk Water Filling Station located north of 5081 Capreol Rd. (Regional Rd. 84), Hanmer, until the advisory has been lifted. Homes and businesses along 7th Avenue between 13th Street and 14th Street (that include people with weakened immune systems or those wanting to take extra precautions) are advised to boil water for at least one full minute before drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages (or ice) or brushing teeth. People can also use an alternate water source if they wish. “We’ve got the water main fixed,” Invermere Mayor Al Miller told the Pioneer, adding that the advisory was issued mostly as a precaution since the water main was in fact opened up during the work. Miller isn’t sure why the water main broke, although he suggested “it may have had something to do with the natural play we sometimes see as a result of winter frost.”
Water main break disrupts water supply, traffic in Halifax
A water main break in west-end Halifax disrupted water supply and traffic early Monday afternoon. Halifax Regional Police had asked drivers to avoid the Armdale Roundabout, where water was pooling, "making driving hazardous," the force said in a news release. Just before 4 p.m. AT, police said the roundabout had reopened to traffic. Halifax Water spokesperson Jeff Myrick said crews were working to repair the break, which occurred when a construction company hit a transmission main on Roosevelt Drive.
Boil-water advisory issued in Quebec City
Quebec City has issued a boil water advisory for parts of the borough of Charlesbourg after a water main break in Place des Colibris Monday evening. The advisory is in place for people living in the area bounded by Jean-Talon Boulevard to the south, the Laurentian autoroute to the east, Saint-Samuel Avenue to the west and 41st Avenue West and East to the north. The city said residents should boil their water for at least one minute.
Lakeshore ends boil water advisory following water main repair
Lakeshore town officials announced Monday evening that a boil water advisory in place since Dec. 23 for more than 550 properties had ended. Properties in northeast Lakeshore, including Lighthouse Cove, Crystal Beach, Laforet Beach and Couture Beach, were told to boil their water after a water main break Friday morning. “We appreciate everyone’s patience,” said Krystal Kalbol, Lakeshore’s corporate leader of operations. “We’d also like to thank all of our dedicated staff who responded.”

Less than a month after opening, The Leaf — the long-awaited new horticultural attraction at Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park — is temporarily closed due to a water main break. On Christmas Day, Assiniboine Park and Zoo announced on social media that The Leaf experienced a burst pipe and clean water leak, and it will be closed on Monday and Tuesday as a result. The Leaf's restaurant, Gather Craft Kitchen and Bar, will be closed until Thursday, according to the director of communications for the Assiniboine Park Conservancy, Laura Cabak. She said the leak originated in the roof above the event hall.
Water main break leaves streets flooded in Regina's Lakeview neighbourhood
Some residents of Regina's Lakeview neighbourhood woke up to the sound of car alarms and a flooded street. A water main broke at Hill Avenue and Argyle Road around 4:30 a.m. CST Monday. Ted Deller, a former CBC Saskatchewan newsreader who lives in the neighbourhood, found about 10 vehicles that were flooded. "Flooding started at 4:30 a.m. and was flowing by our house. I tried walking toward the end of the street but the water was up to the top of my firefighter boots threatening to go in," he said. "Car alarms were going off. Their electrical systems had shorted out, headlights were on, the windshield wipers were running and the trunk popped open."

The emergency department at Sackville Memorial Hospital is "closed unexpectedly" for the weekend because of a water main break, Horizon Health Network says. In a news release issued Saturday, Horizon said the emergency department will remain closed until 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25. Horizon said it will provide an update on the emergency department's reopening on Sunday.

A boil water advisory has been issued for part of Gatineau, Que., and will affect approximately 8,000 users. The advisory is due to a water main break, according to Gatineau officials, and is in effect until further notice. Those living south of Highway 50, east of avenue Gatineau, north of boulevard La Vérendrye and west of rue Main should boil water for one minute before drinking it.

About 600 east Saint John homes and businesses are under a boil water after a 53-year-old water main broke. The break in the 250-millimetre (roughly 10-inch) cast iron water main on Hickey Road, near On the Vine Meat & Produce, was discovered "late Friday evening into early Saturday morning," said city spokesperson Nathalie Logan. It left area residents without any water for about 14 hours, according to Logan.
Water main break causes sinkhole in Garneau area
Utility crews responded to a water main break that caused a sinkhole in the Garneau area Friday evening. EPCOR told CTV News Edmonton that crews were notified of the sinkhole after 6 p.m. at 107 Street and 85 Avenue. Officials shut off the water in the area at 7 p.m. as they started to make repairs, affecting five apartment buildings and one home. In the meantime, EPCOR says a water tank has been made available to residents. The utility provider asks residents and motorists to stay away from the area as crews continue to make repairs and restore water service.

Halifax Water said it was made aware of a potential water main issue around 5:30 a.m. AT on Agricola Street, a busy thoroughfare that connects north-end and central Halifax.
