Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.
A boil water advisory has been issued for part of Gatineau, Que., and will affect approximately 8,000 users. The advisory is due to a water main break, according to Gatineau officials, and is in effect until further notice. Those living south of Highway 50, east of avenue Gatineau, north of boulevard La Vérendrye and west of rue Main should boil water for one minute before drinking it.
The city of Gatineau says approximately 15,000 residents will be under a boil water advisory starting Tuesday night. The boil water advisory is due to water main work in the city. It comes into effect at 11 p.m. and will remain in effect until it is lifted. The homes affected by the advisory are located between Montée Paiement and Avenue du Cheval-Blanc, Highway 50 and the Ottawa River.
