A busy downtown Toronto intersection will be closed for at least two weeks while crews repair a water main that burst over the weekend. King Street West is closed between York and Simcoe streets, and University Avenue is closed between Adelaide Street West and Wellington Street West. The city says that work to fix the water main will take place around the clock. The affected pipe is cast iron and was originally installed 140 years ago, says Bill Shea, director of distribution and collection for Toronto Water.
Notre-Dame Street merchants reach construction compromise with Sud-Ouest borough
Some Montreal merchants who were upset about major upcoming repair work on a stretch of Notre-Dame Street West in Little Burgundy, are hoping their summer terrasse season can be salvaged. This comes as the Sud-Ouest borough has tweaked its schedule to wrap construction a bit early. Work to fix the street's 100-year-old water main between Vinet and Atwater Streets will begin as planned in mid-April, but will end before the end of June, instead of stretching into July.
Sinkhole on busy Halifax street caused by water main break, says utility
Water was shut off Monday for dozens of customers in Halifax after a water main burst and a sinkhole developed on a street lined with homes and businesses. Halifax Water said it was made aware of a potential water main issue around 5:30 a.m. AT on Agricola Street, a busy thoroughfare that connects north-end and central Halifax. The street was closed between Sarah and Woodill streets while crews responded, and water service was shut down between West and Cunard streets, affecting about 51 civic addresses.
