Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.

A resident of St. Lewis, Labrador is expressing concerns for his community's local water supply and environment as Search Minerals, a rare-earth mining company, moves its operation closer to town. Warwick Chubbs says the company has been working in the area of St. Lewis for two years but things are getting a little too close for comfort for the town of just under 200 people.
Nearly a month after the incident was first reported, Imperial Oil has confirmed that the produced water line that spilled in Norman Wells, N.W.T. is underneath the Mackenzie River. Cabin Radio first reported the leak's location. Imperial Oil said the cause of the leak is still being determined and that results from water sampling indicate there is no risk to public health or freshwater aquatic life downstream. In early August, residents in Fort Good Hope reported a fuel-like sheen and other surface contaminants spotted on the surface of the Mackenzie River.
A federal grant may help the Municipality of West Nipissing complete a secondary water main loop in Sturgeon Falls. The money would also allow a second feed from the water treatment plant. Funding is available from the green stream of the Investing Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), which is offering up “to five million dollars” from a $240 million pot to applicable projects, explained municipal engineer Alan Korell. The grant is “only for drinking water” systems, he said.
A Temagami man says he's prepared to go without running water this winter to avoid a $12,000 repair bill — part of which he thinks the town should pay. That's how much it would cost to replace his water line which runs through two municipal lots before getting to his house. James Black says he had an agreement with the town to cover two-thirds of the cost, but council changed its mind.
