New Funding Available for Manitoba Agriculture Producers and Processors to Support Sustainability Initiatives and Food Safety Improvements

The Water Use Efficiency stream provides funding for projects that help reduce the amount of water used by agri-processors in production and sanitation processes, treatment of wastewater prior to being disposed or returned to the municipal system or to the recovery of nutrients from wastewater. This funding aligns with the Manitoba government’s Water Management Strategy, which guides future actions, decisions and investments to protect the province’s water resources and ecosystems while sustainably growing the economy and communities. Funding is available for up to 50 per cent of the project cost, up to a maximum of $250,000 per project.

BP defends drilling exploration well in marine refuge off Newfoundland

During a visit to Newfoundland last week, federal Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson, said that while exploration drilling is permitted within the refuge, production is not. "There are different levels of protection. In marine protected areas, there is no allowance for oil and gas development, but in marine refuges there is a provision that allows for exploration but not for production. So one can actually explore within the context of a marine refuge", Wilkinson said Wednesday.

Desert Mountain Energy Successfully Completes Gunnar Dome Well

From the President of the Company. The Company is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed its wildcat well on the Gunnar Dome prospect. As previously announced, the Company made the decision to test multiple zones in the well to have a better understanding of the localized geology with regard to future drill locations. A total of seven zones were perforated, tested, then squeezed off and bridge plugs were set to ensure complete closure. Many of the zones had gaseous mixtures which the McCauley processing plant is not currently set up to extract. The two sections which were perforated for production are within the same geologic formation and are separated by an impermeable layer with similar pressure. Both zones were perforated in a manner to stay within an area of only connate formation water values. Water-free or near-water-free Helium production is a continuing Company goal.
