People in several Brampton neighbourhoods are grappling with swamped basements and other property damage Monday, one day after heavy rainfall caused localized flooding — and Environment Canada is warning the Greater Toronto Area could see more of the same Monday night. Prince Sharma was one of dozens of people who called the city about flood damage Sunday night. He told CBC News he was having dinner with his family when the storm hit. He said he heard running water so he went to inspect the basement of his Hardgate Crescent home, located near Wanless and Van Kirk drives.

The naming ceremony saw the name changed to ‘the Water Walker’ in Ojibwe to recognize water rights advocate Josephine Mandamin. The Anishinaabe grandmother, elder and founding member of the Water Protectors walked around the Great Lakes to bring awareness to water pollution. She walked 25,000 miles around the shorelines of all Great Lakes and other North American waterways while carrying a bucket of water to bring awareness to the need to protect the waters from pollution.

Brampton resident and engineer named a winner of Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Award

A highly decorated Ontario Public Service employee living in Brampton has been named a Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Award winner. Indra Maharjan is a wastewater professional and the current director of innovation, technology and alternative delivery at the Ontario Clean Water Agency. Born in Nepal, Maharjan has been creating innovation solutions for the Canadian water and wastewater industry since moving to Canada more than 10 years ago. “My current role is to promote innovative solutions around energy, climate change and resource recovery,” he said, in a release announcing his win. “It involves working with stakeholders to demonstrate new technology and implementation models that reduce the cost of operating the system making it more sustainable and resilient.”
