Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.
Update on Baseline Environmental Studies: Wildlife and plant studies were completed and submitted to the BLM for review. We believe that no material red-flag issues for the project were discovered in this work; Quarterly baseline water sampling and analysis have been consistently performed at the project over the last two years; Four quarters of baseline study have now been completed on water samples from natural seeps and springs within a 10-mile radius of the project; One water well and two upstream monitoring wells were drilled and completed and 5 wireline piezometers were installed in abandoned exploration drillholes on the property for use in aquifer sampling and modeling around the Tonopah deposit.
A Leamington property owner is fighting with the province about who is responsible for cleaning up a water well that is leaking gas on one of his lots. "The situation is kind of at a stalemate," David Cockerham said. Cockerham is currently being ordered by the Ministry of Environment to plug a well that sits in the corner of a lot that he owns next to his primary residence — a job that could potentially cost upwards of $900,000.
