Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.
The Town of Antigonish, N.S., is ordering all town and area water utility customers to begin conserving water. The order came into effect Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and will remain until water levels at the James River Dam return to normal. The town's chief administrative officer Jeff Lawrence told CBC's Maritime Noon the water behind the dam is one metre below spilling.
The City of Regina is seeking input from residents on how to improve affordability for low-income property taxpayers and water utility customers in a new online survey. “Regina strives to be an inclusive, attractive and sustainable community where residents of all income levels can thrive,” said Mayor Sandra Masters in a recent news release. “We want to address affordability in a meaningful way, and we encourage all Regina residents to share their feedback on program options and their level of support for affordability programs by taking the survey.”
