Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.

The high water in the eastern Manitoba park caused major damages, resulting in lost revenue for businesses already affected by a wet spring and delayed summer. D.J. Seales, owner of the Barrier Bay resort and president of the North Whiteshell Business Association, says the last few weeks of closures could cost surrounding businesses hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair.

Parts of Australia's third-most populous city Brisbane were under water Monday after heavy rain brought record flooding to some East Coast areas and killed eight people. The flooding in Brisbane and its surrounds is the worst since 2011 when the city of 2.6 million people was inundated by what was described as a once-in-a-century event. The latest fatality was a man in his 50s who drowned on Monday after driving his car into floodwater before dawn at Gold Coast city, south of Brisbane, Queensland state police said.
