The Government of Manitoba has launched public engagement on its first ever water strategy action plan. “We’re inviting all Manitobans to provide feedback and help identify the priorities for our province’s first water management strategy action plan,” said Minister of Environment, Climate and Parks Jeff Wharton in a news release. To access the survey, go to https://engagemb.ca/water-strategy. The survey will close on February 15, 2023. The water strategy action plan is expected for release in spring, 2023, according to the release.

A plan to create a vast network of marine protected areas stretching from Vancouver Island to the Alaskan border inched closer to reality this Monday after the governments of Canada, British Columbia and over a dozen First Nations released a draft plan to the public. If enacted, the marine protected areas (MPAs) would protect nearly a third of the Northern Shelf Bioregion — a 100,000-square-kilometre tract of ocean also known as the Great Bear Sea.
Remaining vigilant: Health of Lake Huron depends on constant monitoring and public engagement
The status of Lake Huron is good and unchanging — and it needs constant monitoring to make sure it stays that way, says a scientist with a local environmental association. In late July, the United States Environmental Protection Agency and Environment and Climate Change Canada released its State of the Great Lakes 2022 Report. The report, typically produced every two years, is part of the 1972 Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement between Canada and the United States and based on nine indicators of ecosystem health, such as drinking water, fish consumption, and beach closures.
