A man who says he is the owner of the so-called abandoned sailboat Kraken is telling his story to CHCH News. The boat appeared in the Hamilton Harbour in the fall, becoming a curiosity of sorts. Adrian Monrad of Brant County says he is the owner of the Kraken. The father-of-four says he bought the boat from a young couple in Toronto last spring, before sailing it to the LaSalle Marina in Burlington where he stayed until October. Monrad says he moored it temporarily in Bayfront Park and says he had planned to have the boat taken out of the water at Hamilton’s Harbour West Marina in mid-November, but the plan didn’t work out.
22 beaches, 10 marinas recognized for being the cleanest and safest in Canada in 2022
The cleanest and safest beaches and marinas in Canada have been named in a new list of locations to earn a Blue Flag in 2022. Twenty-two beaches and 10 marinas have earned a Blue Flag designation, an international award given to community waterfronts that meet high environmental, safety and cleanliness standards. Registered charity Swim Drink Fish has been the Canadian operator for Blue Flag International since 2020. It helps national beaches or marinas interested in receiving the award through encouraging community engagement and management practices.
Water levels to be tweaked for boat haul-out
The International Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence River Board plans to assist boat haul-out on Lake St. Lawrence during October. After meeting last week to reassess water level conditions and discussing the possibility of providing boat haul-out assistance, the board is set to reduce outflow temporarily from Lake Ontario to increase water levels on Lake St. Lawrence during the second weekend in October, which will assist in the fall boat haul-out for marinas and dock owners.
