Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.

Hundreds attend irrigation conference in Lethbridge

The 2023 Irrigated Crop Production Update conference included presentations from over one dozen speakers, with topics ranging from updates to irrigation projects, climate change, water quality, scholarships, crop nutrients, and more. The event was the first of its kind since early 2020 and was hosted by Lethbridge College. Senior Research Chair at Lethbridge College Willemijn Appels says it was great to see so many people with different areas of expertise be able to share their knowledge and research with one another.

Water Security Agency Holds Open House Events For Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Projects

The public is invited to take part in a couple of open house events this week to learn more about the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Projects. The 10 year multi-project is expected to provide a major boost for the Province's agriculture sector. Once completed, the Lake Diefenbaker Projects will provide over 500,000 acres of agricultural land in southern and central Saskatchewan with water. Patrick Boyle, the Executive Director of Communications with the Water Security Agency, says they are holding a couple of open house events this week so that people have a better understanding of the work that is being planned and the impact it will have for the areas.
