Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.
In Whistler, this investment will support the construction of a new water treatment plant in the south. It will also enable the replacement of an existing well pump, the decommissioning of one well and two chlorine dosing systems, and the construction of approximately 600 metres of new water main. This work will ensure wastewater is properly treated and improve the connection with the Whistler Main system.
Document intended to protect Whistler's biggest water supply. The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is taking steps to protect the community's biggest water source. At its July 10 meeting, council endorsed the 21 Mile Creek Watershed Source Water Protection Plan (SWPP)—a document intended to mitigate risks and minimize exposure to unacceptable concentrations of contaminants in the water supply.
