Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.

Canada announces $22M in water infrastructure projects

This week, Canadian officials announced the construction of a new water treatment system in Petit-Rocher in New Brunswick, and almost $20M in funding for water infrastructure across the Yukon province. The Petit-Rocher project will see the construction of a new water treatment system that uses nano filtration, along with the expansion of the existing pump station. Additionally, a new treatment system for the filtration backwash, and connections to municipal water services, will also be built. Once completed, the site will be rehabilitated and expanded with a new parking lot to better assist with increased capacity and demand at the existing centre.

Canada and New Brunswick invest in the expansion of the water system for residents of Memramcook

The water system expansion project will convert a test well into a production well in the new East Memramcook region. This will expand the capacity and the sustainability of the system and benefit the community by increasing access to potable water. The project will also provide water to residences that are currently not serviced. A booster station and a water storage tank will also be constructed in order to provide sufficient water pressure to residents. This expansion will also provide a secure water source for an additional 175 users.
