Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.

New Muskrat Falls monitoring committee focuses on food, water and methylmercury levels

The head of a new committee tasked with monitoring and health management oversight for Muskrat Falls says he's focused on involving those who know the area best. The government of Newfoundland and Labrador announced last week it has established a Muskrat Falls Monitoring and Health Management Oversight Committee. It's part of a list of recommendations made by the Independent Expert Advisory Committee in 2018 to address concerns related to methylmercury from the controversial hydro-electric project.

The 824MW Muskrat Falls Hydroelectric Generating Station, a key part of the Lower Churchill Project in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, is now complete and has been released to the Newfoundland and Labrador System Operator (NLSO) for service. The Muskrat Falls Corporation received notice of acceptance of the commissioning certificate by the Independent Engineer, who provides oversight on behalf of the Federal Government, late Thursday, November 25.
