Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.

Today, René Arseneault, Member of Parliament for Madawaska—Restigouche, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities; the Honourable Gary Crossman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation; and His Worship Ian Comeau, Mayor of the City of Campbellton, announced joint funding for upgrades to community water and wastewater infrastructure along Adam Street and Dufferin Street.

City of Campbellton doesn't know when boil water advisory may be lifted

After more than a month of dealing with a boil water advisory, Campbellton Mayor Ian Comeau says the city still has no idea when it could be lifted. The advisory has been in place since Sept. 24 because of high turbidity in the drinking water, meaning the water is too cloudy to safely drink. Residents have been told to keep water at a rolling boil for at least one minute if it's being used for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. The city also advised residents to sponge wash young children to ensure they don't ingest the water.
